About Norscot

An urban sanctuary, cared for by its community.

Norscot Koppies & Kingfisher Nature Reserve is a 16.5-hectare slice of natural wonder between Fourways and Douglasdale. This volunteer-supported reserve protects koppies, wetland habitat and a remarkably peaceful place to reconnect with nature.

Stewarded in partnership with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the reserve is shaped by local people who believe urban nature deserves a future.

Our wildlife

Five habitats. Countless small encounters.

Slow down and the reserve begins to reveal itself: a flash of blue, a rustle in the grass, a sun-warmed shell or ripples between the reeds.

Wildlife is never staged. Every sighting is a quiet privilege—please observe without disturbing habitat.

Our history

From granite quarry to protected sanctuary.

The land once carried the marks of quarrying. Over time, water gathered, habitat returned and residents organised around a shared conviction: this place was worth protecting.
